Cute Overload

Saw these on Cute Overload... hilarious!

Which one of these doesn't belong?

Miss Audrey Allure came by to ring in the new year with us at The House of Yao. She brought her laptop to join in at the Yao Internet Cafe. The only Mac at the table! Hehehe.

Momofuku with the Family

So I went back to Momofuku as I said I was going to.  We couldn't reserve a bo ssam like we wanted to so we ordered some other dishes instead.  It was yummy.

Here's the outside of the restaurant.  They were apparently still closed when we they got there so they had to go sit in a Starbucks for a while until I got there.  I ended work at 5:30pm and didn't get there until 6pm.

Someone is in there....

Side shot of the place.  This is the entrance to Milk Bar where they have unique desserts and shakes.

The menu, can't see it clearly but it's a very simple menu.

Patrick ordered the Ginger Ale to start.

Seasonal Pickles - These were yummy but the favors blended in a little bit after eating them for a while.

There are the Steamed Buns - Pork Belly with Hoisin Sauce, Cucumbers, and Scallions.  They were a bit fatty for me but they remind me of something I would eat at home.

This was the Special Pork Bun - Seared Pork Belly with Avacado, Carrots, and Pickled Radish.  This was much better than the regular Steamed Buns.  Penny was thinking we should've gotten more of these instead.

Surprisingly Penny had never tried Sweetbreads so we ordered some Veal Sweetbreads - Almond, Sauerkraut, and Thai Chili here.  I've had them at L'Ecole and they were really good there.  These were even better.  For those of you who don't know what sweetbreads are here you go, as defined by Wikipedia.

We also shared a Short Rib Sandwich - Taleggio, Beet Slaw, and Nueske's Bacon.  This was really yummy.  Funny, it took every ounce of effort to cut it up into six slices.  The bread was so toasty and nice that the butter knife they gave us to cut it with didn't really do much.  We managed to get it into pieces though.

We shared a dish of the Potato Ravioli, it apparently was a side of the Grilled Dry Aged Ribeye that we ordered for our main dish.

Here is the Dry Aged Ribeye.  It was tender and yummy.  Those are large pieces of garlic on top of it.

It came with this dipping sauce and some sea salt to put on top of it, otherwise it was a little bland.

Afterwards we went into the other part of the restaurant, Milk Bar, to have some dessert.  Unfortunately we were no allowed to bring it into the restaurant section but that's all right.  The change of scenery and somewhat fresh air was good.

They all looked so yummy.

I settled for the Grasshopper Pie and a cup of Stumptown coffee.  It was delicious but super heavy and filling.  I'm kind of glad that the dinner we had wasn't so heavy.

Here's a random shot of Miss Audrey Allure and Andres.  Lol.

Overall I enjoyed my dinner out with the family.  I wish we could've reserved a bo ssam but maybe next time we'll have better luck.  I certainly enjoyed it nonetheless.

Happy New Year!

Pork Slap

Saw this can sitting on the table of Milk Bar. We went there after dinner at Momofuku's. Hilarious!

Congestion at the Yao Internet Cafe! Trying to clear the table for New Year's Eve dinner, looks like it's going to be a yummy one.

KY Creation

Made my first pom pom scarf. I used nubby yarn so it would look fluffy.

I'm thinking of making a cream color one.

Gramercy Tavern

My cousins Grace and Patrick treated Penny and I to a very nice lunch today.  So yummy.  The better pics were taken by Patrick, lol.  Tomorrow night we'll hit Momofuku.  Miss Audrey Allure and Andres will be coming along with us.

On the way to the train we saw this funny little snowman.  Makes me want to make one in our front yard as well... hehe.  Is that a cigarette?

 Here we are!

Shot of the front glass.

Shot from the inside.

Menu

Hmm, what to have....

Penny says, "One measly piece of bread!?!"

Kathleen says, "Don't be greedy."

Patrick agrees.

Hmm, everything looks so good.

Still can't decide.

Patrick documenting for his blog.

Grace orders the Ginger Swizzle, Patrick ordered the Lemon Thyme Tonic of which I didn't take a picture.  I was too involved in trying to decide what to have for lunch.

I decided on the Calamari and Carrot Salad with Toasted Pine Nuts and Preserved Lemon Vinaigrette

Penny's appetizer:  Red King Crab with Sunchokes and Apples

Patrick's appetizer:  Red Kuri Squash Soup with Brussel Sprouts and Apples

Grace had the Cauliflower with Red Quinoa, Prunes, and Peanuts

For my entrĂ©e I had the Sea Bass with Squash, Pumpkin Seeds and Currants

Penny opted for the Pork Croquette with Red Cabbage, Aji Dulce Peppers and Spiced Port Sauce

Patrick ordered the savory Braised Lamb Shoulder with Heirloom Beans, Wild Mushrooms and Brussel Sprouts

And finally Grace, a girl after my own heart, had the Roasted Hanger Steak with Fingerling Potatoes, Red Russian Kale and Bourbon Sauce

I had a cappuccino with my dessert...

My dessert being the Warm Chocolate Bread Pudding served with Cacao Nib Ice Cream

Penny chose the Sticky Toffee Fig Cake and Coffee Ice Cream, which she said tasted more figgy than toffee'y, lol.

Grace ordered the Dried Cherry Cheesecake with Black Pepper Butter Cookie and Cherry Lemon Sorbet

Finally Patrick's dessert, Peanut Butter Semifreddo with Chocolate Macaroon.

Since we ordered coffee to go with our desserts we were served some petits fours with it.  I can't remember what they were but the round ones in the middle are peanut butter something or other with a crisp shell covered in chocolate.  The Squares had an orange peel something or other and the other lighter color ones were some type of macaroon.  So yummy.

I had a wonderful time with my sister and cousins.  I recommend lunch or even dinner here for something nice.  I wouldn't recommend it for an everyday lunch thing but for a special occasion it's really nice.
